CRT Bacterial Test

Mothers are assessed using this method. Procedures are courtesy of VIVADENT.

Chew the Parrafin wax to simulate salivation for 5 minutes.

Collect Saliva in measuring cup (saliva flow data is collected).

  Open the agar surface vial.

Insert Sodium Bicarbonate tablet (Baking Soda) into the vial. This realeases CO2 into the vial for optimal anaerobic bacterial growth.

Peel off the protective film of both S. mutans agar surface (blue) and Lactobacillus agar surface (green).

Use the pippette to collect the saliva.

Saturate both sides of the agar surfaces without touching or disturbing it.

Use the measuring cup to collect the saliva that drips from the agar surface.

Label the vial with personal information and CRT test date.

Incubate the vial for 48 hours at 37 degrees celsius.

Compare bacteria colony growth with the chart.

  Low levels of S. mutans.

  Medium level of S. mutans.

  High levels of S. mutans.

  Low level of Lactobacillus.

  Medium level of Lactobacillus.

  High level of Lactobacillus.
