Dental Screenings
What is a Dental Screening?
A dental screening should not be considered a dental exam done by a professional dentist. It is a preliminary evaluation of a child's oral health that identifies caries or cavities. The screeners count decayed, missing, and filled teeth while noting any obvious oral health problems. (i.e. severe gingivitis, ankyloglossia, and abcesses.)
Classifications are in four categories.
Class 1- No visible dental problems.

Class 2- Mild dental problems with presence of small carious lesions.

Class 3- Severe dental problems with presence of large carious lesions.

Class 4- Emergency treatment required accompanying pain
.
Training for screeners are provided by a Pediatric Dentist, Dr. Ray Stewart D.D.S, M.S.. Protocols for screening are adopted from the American Association of State Territorial Dental Directors (AASTDD).
